Why is it called Bite-Me Bug Free?
Inspired by pop art and comic book super heroes from our childhood, we liked the playful, tongue-and-cheek sense of humor that came along with the catchy slang to say “get lost” bugs!
How do Bite-Me Bug Free products differ from other skincare brands?
We believe that the products you put on your skin should be as whole, clean and packed with nutrition as the food you put in your body. Harnessing powerful antioxidants and phytonutrients from cold-pressed plant extracts, At Bite- Me Bug Free, we combine Super Herbs + Science to keep your skin as youthful, vibrant, and as naturally protected from insects and the elements as possible.
What makes Bite-Me BUG FREE all natural?
The INGREDIENTS!!! We use real ingredients for real results. We only source the freshest, cleanest non-toxic and non-GMO ingredients from small farms that are committed to organic, sustainable and pesticide free farming practices. We make sure that the products are formulated so that the repellents are powerful AND effective- without DEET.
DEET free….what does that mean?
Most common insect repellents are synthetic and contain a harmful chemical called DEET.
DEET (chemical name: N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide) is the active ingredient in many repellent products, widely used to repel bugs such as mosquitoes and ticks. Rather than killing bugs, DEET works by masking our natural scent, making it hard for them to smell us. Although DEET is shown to be effective, studies show long term application of chemical substances are detrimental to environment and human health!
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has tagged DEET as “slightly toxic”, citing possible harm to your brain and organs when absorbed in certain amounts. Our skin is our largest organ and it absorbs everything you put on it! It only takes 26 Seconds for the chemicals in your personal care products to enter your blood stream!!
Erring on the side of caution, BITE-ME BUG FREE! Knew we wanted a Zero chemical, NON-GMO, pesticide- free policy for all of our products.
Rather than DEET, we follow the guidelines from The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and use the ONLY plant-based active ingredient approved in all our formulas: Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus. We have lab tested and adjusted the concentration so it is safe in our formulas.
Can I use BITE-ME BUG FREE on my face?
Yes, but with precaution. The spray is intended to be applied all over your body. It can potentially irritate your face, try a small patch test (see below) first. What works for our family is shaking spray well spray into my hands and rub together, then blotting lightly on face. Keep out of eyes, and off lips and mouth.

Yes, Bite-me bug spray is safe for babies 3 months old and older. As full spectrum sprays, they are safe for the whole family. The spray should be applied more heavily to clothing and away from face. We suggest a patch test for sensitive skin. There are 3 formulas to chose from: BABY + REPEL, which is our most gentle formula, SPARKLE + REPEL, a medium strength formula that is also Citronella and soy free, and our Original PLAY + REPEL which is our strongest formula intended to keep bugs away from the most allergic kids and adults. Is Bite-Me BUG FREE safe to use with sunscreen?
SPF first. Apply your Broad Spectrum (UVA + UVB) SPF all over your face & body. Let SPF sit and absorb into skin, approx. 5-10 min. You can apply your bug spray directly on top of your SPF (and onto your clothing). Both should be reapplied if you are outdoors for any prolonged period of time.
How do I use bite-me BUG FREE?
SHAKE WELL. Spray liberally all over your clothing and exposed skin. Reapply every hour or as often as needed. For more protection wear long sleeve, long pants, and avoid dark color clothing which attract bugs, and hard to detect ticks and other pests. Opt for white, khaki, and loose clothing making it harder for bugs to bite. Make sure to reapply every hour or more often as needed. Natural formulas are not like chemicals ones and DO evaporate with time! Better for YOU bad for BUGS.
I am concerned that I may be having a reaction to your product. What can I do?
Patch TEST. It’s true that everyone should patch test a new product, but it’s especially important for anyone with SENSITIVE SKIN, or for people who’ve had an unfortunately sour reaction to products similar in the past. Symptoms of an allergic reaction can vary depending on which parts of your body get affected and how severe your reaction is.
Bite-Me Bug Free suggests that if you have had allergic reactions in the past or have sensitive skin, try testing the product on a small patch of skin on your arm, if after 24 hours you are ok, no itchy or bumpy spots, then the formula is good to go.
If you or your child DO have an adverse reaction:
Are Natural Bug Repellents regulated?
No, not all natural insect repellents are. Currently Bite-me BUG FREE is NOT registered through EPA, BUT we DO follow the EPA guidelines for product evaluation. We also use third party Labs for testing and safety.
See below for EPA guidelines on Natural Bug Repellents.
Some insect repellent products for sale in the United States do not currently require EPA registration. In the 1990s, EPA evaluated the active ingredients in these unregistered products for safety. We determined that the active ingredients posed minimal risk to human health in the percentages found in products on the market. Based on this minimal risk determination, we decided that products made from these ingredients should be exempt from registration. Note that products made from these ingredients have not been evaluated for effectiveness.
Examples of ingredients used in unregistered repellents are:
Peppermint and peppermint oil
Will bite-me BUG FREE kill the bugs?
NOPE. Bite-Me BUG FREE can not kill bugs. It is used as a preventative measure to REPEL bugs. The essential oils create a strong scent that discourages insects from landing or climbing on that surface.
